Conversation…an exploration of storytelling through Bharatanatyam

Conversations… draws from the richness of Hindu mythology and philosophy to weave together a series of questions and answers, like an imagined call and response to the cosmos. These questions are inspired by various inquiries that were voiced by our youngest dancers at SVN. Join us on a journey of a conversation prompted by these young minds, where curiosity leads them to asking some BIG questions of cosmic creation and existence, in simple terms. The show aims to awaken imagination, inspire thought and revisit ancient tales. We seek not to give definitive answers, but merely to play with the possibilities of dance as an expression of our soul’s deepest yearning to converse with the divine.

Central to the art of Bharatanatyam is abhinaya or mime, which is the storytelling aspect of dance. Using both abhinaya and abstract movement, this production is an experience of imagination, beauty, grace, and curious expression.

Conversations… an exploration of storytelling through Bharatanatyam is performed by students of Sarvavidya Natyaalaya, some of whom will be performing on stage for the very first time. Join them in their conversation, as they explore the wonders of emotive storytelling through their movement and expression.
